All students in the Department of Earth Science and Engineering can access a range of resources to support their wellbeing and mental health. The Department takes its duty of care very seriously – we strive to create an open environment where we can discuss and support your mental wellbeing as you study or work within ESE.

ESE has a dedicated Student Wellbeing Adviser, Anita Murphy – meet her below.

Student wellbeing experiences

Thoughts from an undergraduate

“One of the reasons why the wellbeing support is so great in our department is because of how accessible and flexible it is, meetings work on your schedule. The support I have had has been amazing, knowing I have always got someone to talk to, in a safe environment within the RSM has helped me so much “

Supporting our MSc students

"I went from not talking to anybody about my personal issues to looking forward to speaking to the Wellbeing Support weekly. ESE Wellbeing Support is led by truly extraordinary people who have guided me through difficult periods with sound advice and aided me to perform greatly in my academics during an intense year."

PhDs benefit from our resources

“As a lot of other Imperial PhD students do, I developed a case of imposter syndrome. I am incredibly grateful for ESE Wellbeing, when contacted they discretely and immediately arranged one on one sessions which helped me realise I wasn’t alone, got my mental health back on track, and gave me resources I could use in case it ever came up again.”

ESE Health and Safety

Due to the complex mix of risks within the department, finding out what procedures to follow and how to apply them can be a little daunting.
